支柱にそっと結ばれた青いトマトが、夏の光を浴びてふくらんでいく。この村では、農家であってもなくても、庭先や畑でごく普通に野菜を育てている。規模の大小はあれど、土に触れる暮らしがすぐそこにある。あと少しで色づくその日を、みんなが同じように待っています。

Bound loosely to a stake, a cluster of green tomatoes swells in the summer light, still weeks from ripe. In this village nearly everyone grows something — farmer or not, in a backyard patch or a proper field. The scale varies, but a life close to the soil is never far away here. And so the whole village waits together for the same quiet moment: the day the green finally turns red.
