Stand on the platform at Sakakita Station and the Northern Alps are simply there, snow still caught along their ridges. A road ducks beneath the viaduct; houses lean their roofs together; light catches on the plastic greenhouses. Beyond the grasses bending in the wind, the village goes quietly about its day. For the few minutes you stand waiting, the view is exactly as it always is — and that is enough to make it beautiful.
