The paddies are flooded now, and the young rice stands in neat, straight rows. The sky lies on the water, and at every passing breeze the green blades stir. A few centimetres taller than yesterday — to watch that small daily change up close is, I think, the quiet happiness of life in this village. The harvest is still far off, and a long summer lies ahead.
