At the road’s edge, in a thin seam between asphalt and a cut log, a spray of white daisies has burst into the light. No one planted them. A seed fell, took root, and bloomed — that was all. Walk through this village and you are overwhelmed, again and again, by the sheer will of growing things. Even a crack in the concrete is no barrier: by early summer it has brimmed over with green, as if the whole valley were quietly insisting on life.
