On a still summer afternoon, the grasses stand tall and the blue mountains dissolve into the sky. A line of power poles and their wires marches off in single file, on and on toward the hills. Watch them long enough and an old childhood song surfaces unbidden — the one about a track that runs on and on, forever. There’s no need to hurry here. Somewhere down this quiet line, past one bend and the next, another Chikuhoku you have yet to meet is waiting to be found.
