Maruyama is the kind of place that even locals rarely mention — a quiet vantage point set high above Chikuhoku. Beyond a plain wooden fence, ridge after ridge of fresh early-summer green folds into the distance, and behind them all the snow-capped Northern Alps stand out in a clean, unbroken row. Nothing stirs here but the early-summer breeze moving through the grass. There is none of the bustle of a tourist spot — and in its place, the quiet luxury of having an entire mountain range to yourself.
